Stay in Canada as a Visitor
-
A Visitor Visa (also known as Temporary Resident Visa - TRV) is a document that allows you to enter and travel to Canada. There 2 types of visitor visas that can be issued:
single-entry visa
multiple-entry visa
Most visitors are able to stay in Canada for up to 6 months unless otherwise stated on your visitor record.
-
If you are from a visa-exempt country (unless you are a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States) and are travelling by air, you must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if you would like to travel to Canada.
-
A Visitor Record is not a visa.
If you would like to extend your stay in Canada (more than six months) you need to apply for a visitor record which is a document that allows you to extend your stay in Canada as a visitor and includes a new date that you must leave Canada by. You must apply for a visitor record before the expiration of your current visa.

A Super Visa was designed for parents and grandparents to visit their children or grandchildren for up to 5 years at a time.
In order to be eligible to apply, your children/grandchildren must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. You must also be able to provide:
proof of funds;
proof of private insurance for the length of your visit; and
your child/grandchild’s letter of invitation.
